Philosophy of Education

I believe in my students when no one else will. I know that they are capable of much more than they realize and it is my job to help them to understand that. I believe that children will rise to meet the expectations that one sets for them. As an educator, I expect a lot out of my students, but I also expect a lot out of myself. Setting high expectations, believing that they can achieve, and then giving them the resources they need to meet those expectations are a recipe for a successful educational experience. I believe that children need structure, love, and trust to succeed in school. Education is more than academic; it also involves social and emotional learning and growth. Feelings of safety, love, and belonging are just as important to their education as learning how to read or add numbers. Teaching children how to handle disagreements and collaboration are equally as important. My job as an educator is not to hand them knowledge or feed them answers, but to provide the foundational skills that will facilitate their learning in all aspects of life, so that they learn critical thinking skills and how to obtain knowledge for themselves as life-long learners.
